MAO IN MONTANA

Coming down Mt. Jumbo
I greet Mao going up to the feast.
He is preceded by children in white shirts
and red pants carrying arms full of flowers.
Three aides push his wheelchair.
The group has a perimeter of soldiers
Mao smiles.
An aide asks about the food —
May Mao have a chicken bone
with no meat on it,
as example for the masses?

Mao in Montana.
Mao wheeled up Mt. Jumbo
waving an old chicken bone.
